OMG snakes!!

I highly dislike snakes...ok I really hate them. I don't love roaches, spiders, or any of that either, but snakes seriously scare me. They are creepy and slimy and gross and it freaks me out that they can just GO from one place to another SO fast WITHOUT LEGS! It's just nasty. So the other night one ended up on our screen porch....Our screen porch that has a door that goes straight into our den...Our screen porch that our cats hang out on all the time. I actually noticed the snake when I saw Whitaker stalking something out there before bed. Here's the video of what went down when we found it:

Ok, so I thought that snake was bad....well I should have been glad it was just "a friendly garden snake." Yesterday when Ada and I were running (down the sidewalk of a busy, main street here) I literally froze in my tracks when I saw this guy sitting in the grass about a foot from the sidewalk, just watching traffic...or waiting to attack some innocent jogger!!

I turned on my cell phone camera and got a quick clip of him slithering away. And oh my goodness gracious sakes alive, I about freaked at how quick and aggressively he went! He had his head all up in the air and everything. Just nasty...and kinda scary!

After discussing with several helpful friends on facebook, we are pretty sure it's a cottonmouth. Pretty darn venemous snake! SO glad that we stopped and Ada didn't run right over it. She usually runs in the grass instead of on the sidewalk. Ughghg! So scary. I think we need to get some snakeaway or something to make sure they will at least stay out of our yard. Never dealt with this snake thing before so I have no clue what works & doesn't...suggestions??
